The concept of “Perfect” is misused and abused. Ask someone about the weather or their trip to the park, and they often say, it was “Perfect!” This can irritate me. The casual use of any word or concept is lazy and lacks precision and, often, integrity. Our culture seems to have given up on any precision when it comes to communicating. People should be responsible for what they say. Don Miguel Ruiz in his book “The 4 Agreements” says in his 1st Agreement, “Be Impeccable with your Word.” I do not take this lightly because most people do not honor impeccability with what easily and carelessly flows out of their mouths.
Settling for an imperfect use of the word Perfect, follows on this concept that what we say, and often mean, regarding perfection is often far removed from the true definition of the word “Perfect.” The definition of Perfect is: “having all the required or desirable elements, qualities, or characteristics, as good as it is possible to be.” Other synonyms for perfect are: faultless, flawless, consummate, quintessential, exemplary, Best, optimum, matchless, ideal, incomparable, unexcelled, and unsurpassable.
The definition for the word “Perfection” is: “the condition, state, or quality of being free or as free as possible, from all flaws or defects.” The weather could be “close to perfection” but usually not perfect. Your children’s behavior, art project, musical artistry, may be very good or excellent but not perfect. As a judgement, “beauty is in the eye of the beholder” but perfection, by definition, is another matter. Perfection demonstrates No Flaws.
On the other hand, your divine soul and spirit ARE “Perfect.” Yes, you are a demonstration of true perfection. Even if the weaknesses and flaws which may appear to you and others on the surface, do not match the absolute beauty and perfection of who “you really are.” You, as an incarnation with the lessons to learn, have perfection. Your strengths and weaknesses are acting as the tools to move you through the obstacles you may find. You live to improve by increasing your awareness and consciousness. Yes, this is your purpose in life. To remember your divinity and to celebrate your perfection. You’re so much bigger than the “petty” life you live in the limiting three dimensional world you (we) have created. (The use of the word, petty, is a quote from my friend Don who survived a Near Death Experience and came back to his life, and broken body, with the knowledge of how much “bigger” and more “perfect” we truly are. Bigger and better than we can know (or define) in this life.)
Your life may not feel “perfect.” It may not look “perfect.” It may not seem “perfect,” but there is a reason for every lesson and challenge. My insecurities led me to write my fist book and many other accomplishments. At the time, I did not know the value, purpose, and outcome of these achievements. As I look back on the path I traveled I realize that it was of service to me and others. It was the “Perfect” series of events which has led me to where I am at this point in my current life. Many of my life events I would not wish on anyone else including the long illness which lead to the passing of my wife of 28 years. But, looking back on these events, I learned so much. I know empathy in ways I would never have possibly been able to comprehend. A painful lesson with great value to me, and I believe to others as well. So do not run away from the difficult times and life’s struggles. There is so much to learn from these challenges.
You are much greater than you can even imagine. Our limitation in consciousness often prevents us from living in, and knowing, the perfection of the divine spirit which we are! So quit settling for the Misuse of the Word “Perfect” and appreciate the Divine Perfection of who you are which can not be defined by the words we use. (It is like attempting to find words to define a feeling, a smell, a taste, or an emotion. E.g., describe the color, Yellow, or what does garlic taste like?)
You are a blessing!
